Dear Streamr Network Community,
I’m delighted to address you as the newly appointed CEO of the Streamr project, taking the helm at what I believe is a pivotal moment in our evolution towards mainstream adoption.
Over the past two years, we’ve achieved significant milestones—launching 1.0 Mainnet and forging various strategic partnerships to drive protocol adoption. Whilst we’ve enjoyed some successes, we haven’t yet achieved the volume of data flowing through the network that we ultimately aspire to see. For those who’ve heard me speak on this topic, you’ll understand the underlying challenges, and it’s fair to say many Web3 infrastructure projects are grappling with protocol adoption. That’s why we’re focussing on the application layer: so we can gain significantly more users of the technology.
Over a year ago, I explored live video streaming through the Subcast project. Although we decided not to pursue it due to commercial considerations and high barriers to entry—the learnings we gathered have been invaluable for StreamrTV.
Since then, our confidence in live video streaming has grown. With StreamrTV’s MVP1 live and receiving positive feedback, the Streamr Council believes focussing on live video streaming is the correct path to finding true adoption. Even in 2025, the biggest players deliver suboptimal experiences: X Spaces is buggy, Zoom compromises security and Twitch fails to properly reward content creators. Additionally, none of the existing solutions are particularly strong on security, privacy, and censorship resistance—properties which decentralized technology delivers out of the box. We believe we can build better solutions with the Streamr Network as our core underlying technology, and that, combined with our commitment to solving the ‘Web3 UX problem,’ we have a winning formula.
I am acutely aware that some in the community are frustrated by our pace of delivery. It’s my commitment to reinvigorate our core team with a true start-up culture that is leaner, more focussed, with a results-oriented approach that delivers value through adoption and utility.
I’m therefore delighted to announce that Petri Savolainen will be joining me as CTO. Petri brings deep expertise in P2P and video streaming, with a strong entrepreneurial spirit to drive our mission forward. Those who’ve heard Petri speak during our weekly Build in Public calls on X will recognise him as the engine behind StreamrTV. We remain fully supported by Streamr’s founders—Henri and Nikke—working closely with them on a constant basis at every step of our journey.
I’d like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Matthew Fontana and Eric Andrews for their extraordinary contributions over the past year. Their impacts across multiple dimensions aren’t always widely understood or appreciated. I hold them both in the highest regard and I wish them every success as they move on—departing on entirely amicable terms.
Finally, I’m both honoured and excited to be taking the helm, and I encourage everyone in the Streamr community to join Petri, myself, and the rest of our team for our fortnightly Build in Public X Spaces every other Wednesday. It’s your chance to connect directly with the core team, share ideas and help shape the project in real time. We’re committed to achieving product-market fit and with your support I’m confident we will get there.
Onwards and upwards,
Mark Little
CEO, Streamr Network
